How to Measure Your Wrist for a Bracelet: A Simple Size Guide

A bracelet that fits well stays put without pinching, and it drapes the way it was designed to. Getting the size right takes sixty seconds and one piece of string. Here is how.

Measure your wrist in three steps

  1. Wrap a flexible tape — or a string — around your wrist just below the wrist bone, where you would wear the bracelet. Keep it snug but not tight.
  2. Mark the spot and measure the length. That number is your wrist size.
  3. Add room for the fit you want:
  4. Snug fit: add 1/4 to 1/2 inch. The bracelet stays close to the wrist and barely moves. Good for bangles and for tennis bracelets worn daily.
  5. Comfort fit: add 3/4 inch. The bracelet moves a little and feels relaxed. This is the most common choice.
  6. Draped fit: add 1 inch or more. The bracelet slides down the wrist and moves freely. Good for charm bracelets and layered looks.

Example: if your wrist measures 6 inches, a snug bracelet is about 6.5 inches, a comfort fit is about 6.75 inches, and a draped fit is about 7 inches.

Standard bracelet sizes

  • Extra small: 5.5–6 inches (wrist 5–5.5 inches)
  • Small / medium: 6.5–7 inches (wrist 6–6.5 inches) — the most common range
  • Large: 7.5–8 inches (wrist 7–7.5 inches)

Most tennis bracelets, including Tirafina's, come in a standard length around 7 to 7 1/4 inches, which fits the majority of wrists with a comfort fit. If you are between sizes, size up — a slightly loose bracelet is comfortable, a tight one is not.

Buying a bracelet as a gift?

If you cannot measure, the standard 7 to 7 1/4 inch length is the safest choice for most women. For a guaranteed fit without knowing the size, choose an adjustable design: bolo bracelets slide to fit any wrist, and they make excellent gifts for exactly that reason.
